You probably give money to charity, but could you bear to give away your favourite jeans? That’s what a radio station in India asked its listeners to do.
Radio Murchi in Delhi made the request as part of the popular Purani Jeans show hosted by R J Sayema. The drive was in association with Goonj, an organisation which works with the needy. Anshul Gupta of Goonj said:
People often donate clothes only when a natural calamity strikes but I guess winters are regular disasters for every person – lack of clothing can make a lot of people suffer.
People need to be sensitised about clothing. They keep clothes in their boxes as memories and we have a knack of holding on to such things but if these things can improve someone else’s life, then why not part with it
The Purani Jeans drive was a great success and collected over 1400 pairs.
